About Bram

Bram earned his bachelor’s degree at the university of Hasselt 2014. He then proceeded to earning his master degree in chemistry at the university of Antwerp in 2016 after which he returned to the University of Hasselt to start his PhD journey in 2017. In his free time, Bram enjoys playing boardgames, going for a run or hike, and playing videogames.

Developing synthesis methods for hybrid titania materials

Bram has been working on developing synthesis methods for hybrid titania materials. These materials are characterized by a high chemical stability and are highly versatile due to a wide variety of different functional groups that can be incorporated. However with great versatility comes a great variability and thus the research’s main focus is on balancing the simultaneous condensation reactions between the inorganic titania precursors and those between the titania species and the phosphonic acid coupling molecules. In an effort to investigate the interactions between the coupling molecules and the inorganic matrix 31 P solid state NMR are also performed routinely. Ultimately the hybrid materials are thoroughly investigated in order to verify possible applications based on the incorporated function.
